West Coast:Oban Hogmanay celebrates with Donnie Munro

Former Runrig front man to headline their Hogmanay celebrations this year.

Donnie Munro and his six piece band of well known musicians will bring in the New Year at the Oban Hogmanay Homecoming 2009 Final Fling. The line up will include some familiar faces and a number of surprises are guaranteed to please.

The team behind Oban Hogmanay are yet again quick to the mark in ensuring a quality Hogmanay experience for the local community and visitors from Scotland, the UK and overseas.

The family friendly Oban Hogmanay event is now one of the most talked about New Year celebrations in the west coast of Scotland, with an amazing track record of quality Scottish acts, previously including the Red Hot Chilli Pipers & Skerryvore, and an atmosphere that has people jumping on their feet! Last year’s event saw an audience of 7,000 people.

The year of Homecoming Scotland officially ends on St Andrew’s Day, 30th November and the Oban Hogmanay Homecoming 2009 Final Fling event will be an opportunity to reflect on a tremendous calendar of events that are taking place throughout 2009.

Local Councillor Neil Mackay who is also part of the small dedicated community group who organise the event said: “Donnie and his band will be the perfect way to reflect on Oban’s journey through the year of Homecoming. We are aiming to make the Final Fling a truly west coast cultural experience and it will be the perfect way to end 2009.”

Donnie Munro said: “To appear in such a fantastic location as Oban is a great privilege for me and one I look forward to very much. Oban is at the very centre of the Scottish Gaidhealtachd and if anyone is looking to bring in the New Year in a special way and in a special place, then they should make Oban their destination for what will be a spectacular night of celebration.”

Another of the event highlights will be the mesmerising fireworks display, by Oban Fireworks Team, that will bring in the New Year at the stroke of midnight.

Oban Hogmanay Homecoming 2009 Final Fling is a fully licensed event held in the cordoned off arena in the local Tesco supermarket car park. The event caters for families and there will also be a food area where visitors can try some local delicacies as well as a family fun fair.
