Children

We need some advice really. We have booked rooms for the new year and were hoping to come up with our two children aged 2 and 4. We have now been advised that it is not reccommended to take children to any of the parties going on in the city itself. It seems the main problem would be the prams for the kids!!

Can anyone help us out? Should we come up with the children and where if anywhere should we go??

Street party on Princes Street def not!

It's true that the organised partys are unsuitable for children, especially if they are still in prams. They also take place too late in the evening, I would say, for children.

But there is a whole programme of family related events over this period of time. You can see all that there is from the edinburghshogmanay website. I would think that the torchlit procession, the ice rink, fairground, and if you pl;anned on all of you being up and out at midnight then maybe watching the fireworks from one of the seven hills.

Children and street party

Have rooms booked and tickets for street party but am a little confused!
On the tickets is states unsuitable for children under 16. Does this mean they will be refused entry? Or is it at parents discression?
My two arE 12 and 9 and i wouldnt take them unless i thought it would be ok.

It's up to you, the parents

It's up to you, the parents, and the police who man the entranceways into the street party area. Since your kids are accompanied by an adult there shouldnt be a problem. Apparently, the police may turn away groups of under-16s without an over-21-year-old with them - especially if the teens turn up drunk. While taking booze in plastic bottles has been fine for years, this is the first time that alcohol has been sold on the street so the organisers are a bit sensitive about people getting hammered and doing silly things.

After about 11pm, the crowd gets pretty solid in the street party area and if the policeman or woman at the gate feels it is "unsafe" they wont let you in whatever your age and even if you have tickets.

So if you think your children will be okay in a big crowd situation I would get there earlier. If you have tickets to the Concert in the Gardens then you wont have a problem - the numbers allowed into the gardens are small and the gardens are large. Lots of space.

many thanks
