On the first day of every year a brave few leap into the freezing
cold water of Firth of Forth at South Queensferry, just a few miles
out of the Scottish capital. Some claim that the shock to the system
of the so-called Loony Dook is the perfect hangover cure after the
excesses of the huge street party in Edinburgh of the night before.
The video clip on the this page is of the Loony Dook on 1st January
1999. It is a little over 2MB, so be patient while it loads in your
browser.
The Dook takes place at the boat house steps in South Queensferry
at 12 noon on 1st January. Meet 10.45-11am Moorings Pub, 24-26 Hopetoun
Road, South Queensferry.
